The Meaning of 忍 — Nin
The large central kanji is:

Nin / Shinobu
The character 忍 conveys several closely related ideas:
- Endurance
- Patience
- Perseverance
- Self-control
- The ability to withstand hardship
- Remaining calm under difficult circumstances
In the context of Ninjutsu and Ninpō, 忍 does not simply refer to concealment. It also evokes the ability to endure adversity, control one’s emotions and continue acting with awareness and composure.
Meaning of the Calligraphic Inscription
知足常楽
Chisoku jōraku
“Those who know contentment enjoy lasting happiness.”
This phrase teaches that genuine satisfaction does not come from endlessly seeking more, but from recognizing and appreciating what is already present.
能忍自安
Nōnin jian
“Those who are able to endure find peace within themselves.”
Together, these inscriptions express a disciplined philosophy: contentment brings enduring happiness, while patience and endurance lead to inner stability.
Expressive Japanese Brush Calligraphy
The character 忍 is rendered in a bold and spontaneous calligraphic style. The thick black ink, visible brush movement and contrasting areas of open space give the composition energy and depth.
The smaller vertical inscriptions balance the powerful central kanji and invite closer reflection on the meaning of endurance, satisfaction and inner peace.
Traditional Kakejiku Format
This artwork is presented in the traditional vertical kakejiku hanging-scroll format. The calligraphy is mounted with decorative textile borders and fitted with upper and lower rollers, allowing it to be displayed vertically and carefully rolled for storage.
- Artwork support: silk
- Format: vertical Japanese hanging scroll
- Mounting: decorative textile mounting
- Storage: wooden scroll box included
- Classification: 模写 — mosha
The term 模写 — mosha indicates that the work is offered as a reproduction, study copy or work whose attribution has not been independently authenticated. It should therefore be appreciated primarily for its decorative, calligraphic and philosophical qualities.
Dimensions
| Calligraphy artwork | Approximately 53.6 × 112 cm |
|---|---|
| Complete mounted scroll | Approximately 66 × 186 cm |
Because the measurements were taken manually, slight variations may occur.
Condition
This is a pre-owned decorative artwork showing visible signs of age and previous storage. The scroll may display:
- Age-related discoloration
- Stains and foxing
- Small marks or areas of surface wear
- Natural creases and mounting irregularities
- Wear to the wooden storage box
These characteristics are visible in the product photographs and form part of the scroll’s existing condition. They do not prevent it from being displayed as a decorative calligraphy piece.
Please examine all available photographs carefully before purchasing. Variations in monitor settings may cause the colors to appear slightly different from the physical item.

My haori arrived in a timely manner and was everything I expected it to be and more. The quality of the haori is fantastic, and it fits great!
This pair of shoes is really very comfortable, and the craftsmanship is excellent. It's exactly what I expected. The only problem is that I ordered a pair half a centimeter larger than my usual size, and even so, they're so tight that I can't even wear socks (tabis)!
I loved them, very beautiful and perfect fit if you follow the measure instructions. Looking forward for some outdoors bujinkan training in the spirng!
I wish they would come in 12 version as well
Thank you very much
Just like described, fast shipment. Nothing to complain about :)

Just the right size.
As this belt was a replacement for my original black belt from 2003, I am very pleased to say that it has the same feel and quality of my previous belt. I teach karate 5 days a week, so I need a belt that stands the test of time. I am positive that this is it!
Confortable et parfsit pour ma taille de pied. C’est super a porter a l’interieur :)
An amazing Gi. More like a samurai robe. Where the tk-10 is stone this is water, not flimsy but heavy but flows like a powerful river. Amazing quality.
